ON QUALITY TRANSFORMERS AND CHANGE
Each of us generally wants some sort of change in our lives, but sometimes the sort of change we make are far from desired for we do not make such a quality change. Quality change is the ability and capacity to transform the so called ‘negative’ situations, or circumstances or people, into something and someone beneficial, referred to as ‘positive’ for one’s self and others. ‘Quality transformers’ are people who can turn walls of resistance into bridges of understanding and keep crossing them, who can change any obstacle into a stepping stone of success and reverse the niggling, paralysing dragon of doubt into self radiant self-confidence, dissolving the thought ‘impossible’ to possible from the mind.
Some people work with the undercurrents of life that determine the external reality of human interaction, namely their attitudes, thoughts and feelings. If these are permeated with resent, anger and selfishness, then, despite a façade of politeness or co-operation, relationships will be subject to damage and deterioration. On the other hand, when the undercurrent is one of trust and sincerity, then the quality of life is enhanced. The fundamental source of quality is the existence of a positive undercurrent. It is not a matter of words coming out of our mouths, actions and role, but rather the foundation of these manifested in thoughts and the activity of the mind.
Meditation/reflection enables to tune in to that undercurrent of thoughts feelings and attitudes, which is the invisible creator of our human reality. The nourishing power of mental and verbal silence, attained through meditation and reflection and spiritual knowledge, gives us the means to create quality change. Such change enhances our self-confidence and the capacity to creatively and positively relate to life and people as it is.
Silence at a mental and verbal level gives us the energy necessary to affect change and self-knowledge gives us the perception and insight to realise the opportunity for change that everyone and every situation offers.
How do we qualitatively transform ourselves? Does it just happen by itself? Or, is it a state of awareness that naturally recognises opportunities for quality change?
The easiest way to understand quality change came to me one day when I had to put fresh smelly, manure around the roses in my garden. After a few hours f this work I realised that those beautiful flowers, although nourished by the manure did not take any of its odour or colour. They truly like queens of the garden, in their pink, golden red and white robes, filling the air with such fragrance that people who came to the garden did not even notice the manure. The roots of the roses were able to transform the manure to such an extent that the best was taken without any of the negative side effects. This was my first experience of quality change.
The human world is like a garden. We are like a variety of flowers surrounded by lots of “manure”, that is, negativity in all its forms, such as ego, fear, anger, attachments, mistrust, lust and etc. I like to call these negativities, evils or vices*. People who are ‘quality transformers’ can accept all these negative things or vices and use them for their personal growth without the negativity penetrating them; they do not get spoilt, or even touched by it. If you have the chance of viewing a lotus flower, observe that this is exactly what is happening in such circumstance. The lotus plant is in the midst of all the foul smelling, stagnant water and buried in a dirt muddy soil, but its flower doesn’t touch any of these. It’s beyond and

above the physical and non-physical influence; instead shows its purity, beauty and fragrance for all to see and admire. With the understanding and the natural, loving detachment that comes from silence, they realise that the negative person, or situation, in front of them is the Universe’s way of giving them an opportunity to create a tiny, silent miracle in their lives just as the roses in my garden and the lotus flower in a pond. We can be like the roses and the lotus flower in the pond of life and are above and beyond the influence of whatever there is in it. We are more than these flowers. If these flowers can do it why can’t we? Quality transformers become the spiritual roses and lotus in the Garden of Humanity: they display all the beauty and provide inspiration foe all those who come in contact with them. ‘Quality transformers’ can also be compared to the oyster – when a tint foreign particle invade its home, it secretes a liquid that combines with the particle to eventually create a beautiful pearl admired by many. The pearl can live in the oyster’s home for the rest of the oyster’s natural life without causing any disturbance.
In the same way, rather than react negatively and passionately to people and circumstances we can include them and mould with them. In this case, we have then come to a conclusion that life is inclusive, not exclusive. Through universal acceptance, our consciousness jumps to another consciousness and we realise that what we might have previously regarded as ‘problem’ can, if handled properly and correctly, be a means to develop our strengths and remove our weaknesses and exclusivity and embrace all of humanity: beggars or kings, families or strangers, friend or ‘enemies’ close or distant, black or white or yellow or brown or whatever colour they have. Whether a situation or person is a problem or a gift depends on our perception of them. The choice is yours, and mine, everybody’s.
